Mr. Zuckerman was a co-founder of the Company and continues to serve as its Vice Chairman. He has held management roles at the firm since its inception.
Prior to Meridian, Mr. Zuckerman was Chief Executive Officer of a major British-domiciled publicly traded international conglomerate for ten years. He was also a partner at the law firm of Baer Marks & Upham in New York, specializing in corporate finance and real estate law.
Mr. Lobell joined Meridian in 2009 and has served as its President since 2011. In that capacity, he works alongside Mr. Herzka in charting the strategic course of Meridian, including in the development and implementation of new products and business activities. Mr. Lobell also is a co-founder of Beech Street Capital, an Agency and FHA lender closely aligned with Meridian, and currently serves as Beech Street's Vice Chairman and a member of its board of directors.
From October 1996 through January 2005, Mr. Lobell was a partner of Covington & Burling LLP, a national law firm, where he advised companies and individuals, including Meridian, in a variety of regulatory, transactional and litigation matters. From 2005 through 2009, Mr. Lobell served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Paramount Biosciences, LLC, a global pharmaceutical development and healthcare investment firm. In addition to Meridian and Beech Street, Mr. Lobell serves on the boards of several public and private healthcare companies.
Mr. Lobell received his B.A., summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the City University of New York, and received his J.D. from Yale Law School, where he was Senior Editor of the Yale Law Journal.
Managing Director, Head of New Jersey Office
Mr. Schubert joined Meridian in 1996 and has been a Managing Director since 1998. Mr. Schubert manages Meridian’s Iselin, NJ office and previously managed the company’s office in Englewood Cliffs. Under Mr. Schubert’s direction, Meridian’s New Jersey office focuses primarily on serving borrowers in the New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland markets.
As a long-standing and accomplished commercial real estate finance advisor, Mr. Schubert has consistently contributed to the financial accomplishments of the company and has personally negotiated more than $10 billion in financing over the course of his career. He has significant experience working with borrowers and lenders structuring deals throughout the capital stack and is well-versed in all of the major property types.
Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Heumann joined Meridian in 2006 and serves as the Company's Chief Operating Officer. He is responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of the firm, including the continued expansion of Meridian's staffing and personnel. In addition, Mr. Heumann works closely with senior management to develop strategic initiatives. He was a recipient of NJ Biz's "40 under 40" award and recognized by Real Estate Weekly as a Rising Star in commercial real estate.
Prior to joining Meridian, Mr. Heumann was Senior Vice President, Director of Acquisitions, at Kushner Companies. He also worked as an attorney at prominent law firms specializing in mergers and acquisitions and commercial litigation.
Mr. Heumann, a Fulbright Scholar, received his B.A., summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Binghamton University, and received his J.D. from New York University Law School, where he was the Leslie Glass Scholar.
Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs
Mr. Hellman joined Meridian in November 2010 as a Managing Director and Senior Vice President of Legal Affairs. Mr. Hellman's responsibilities include spearheading the firm's alternative investment strategy, structuring complex commercial loans, advising clients on loan workouts and restructurings, and general oversight of Meridian's legal function.
Prior to joining Meridian, Mr. Hellman practiced at Sidley Austin LLP for six years, where he counseled investment banks, private equity firms and other financial institutions in connection with the structuring, origination, sale and securitization of commercial mortgage and mezzanine loans. Mr. Hellman also advised clients on the negotiation of master repurchase facilities relating to commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS), residential mortgage-backed securities (RMBS), commercial mortgage loans, participation interests and other asset-backed debt instruments.
Mr. Hellman received his J.D. from the Benjamin A. Cardozo School of Law.
Managing Director, Finance & Accounting
Mr. Jacobowitz joined the Meridian in August 1999 and currently manages the firm's finance and accounting team. Prior to joining Meridian, he worked in the audit and tax departments at the Public Accounting firm of MR & Co., a member of the BDO Seidman Alliance.
Yossi was admitted as a Certified Public Accountant in October 1999 and graduated summa cum laude from Touro College with a B.S. in Accounting in 1992.
Managing Director, Research
Mr. Simonovits joined Meridian in February 2004 and is currently a Managing Director responsible for the firm's national data, research and information management functions. Mr. Simonovits oversees Meridian's research department, and is actively engaged with Meridian's business systems and technology teams, providing real-time financial and market data to senior management and the firm's mortgage advisors. Prior to his current role in Meridian's Manhattan headquarters, which began in January 2009, Mr. Simonovits managed sales and marketing in Meridian's New Jersey office.
Before joining Meridian, Mr. Simonovits was a Senior Project Manager and Business Analyst for the Clinical Trials Management division of Schering Plough. He has also worked as a part of the information technology team at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
Managing Director, Communications
Mr. Stern joined Meridian in February 2010 and is responsible for the firm's marketing and communications platforms. He also works closely alongside senior management on many of the firm's business development and strategic initiatives. Mr. Stern joined Meridian from J.E. Robert Companies, where he was a member of the Capital Markets, Client Relations and Communications teams. Prior to J.E. Robert Companies, Mr. Stern managed marketing campaigns for several real estate developments in New York. Mr. Stern has also held roles at Citigroup's Corporate and Investment Bank, covering the Technology, Media and Telecommunications sectors, as well as at The Citigroup Private Bank, where he worked in Global Marketing.
Mr. Stern holds an A.B. in Economics from Vassar College.
